Calendar Girls
Wednesday 28, Thursday 29, Friday 30 November & Saturday 1 December 2012
Probably the most successful production in our history, Calendar Girls, written by Tim Firth, was directed by Lynda Danby and told the gentle, charming and touching story of a group of ordinary ladies, members of the Knapeley W.I. in the Yorkshire Dales ,who set out to raise money to buy a new sofa for the relatives waiting room of Skipton General Hospital. Their decision to pose “nude”, in typical W.I. activities, on a Calendar for the year 2000 succeeded beyond their wildest dreams.
Performances were held, as usual, in the Darby & Joan Hall in Cottingham to sell out audiences on all four evenings. Indeed all tickets had been sold out more than five weeks before the first performance.
Our ladies too have produced a calendar in similar fashion and it is currently on sale at Barkers, Newsagents, Hallgate, Cottingham priced at £7.00. Any profits from the sale of the calendar will be donated to the Oncology Unit at Castle Hill Hospital.
