About

As the name suggests, we are a thriving drama group based in Cottingham. We put on two major productions each year, in May and November, with a varied programme of comedies, mysteries, thrillers and dramas. Recent productions have included “Sitting Pretty” by Amy Rosenthal and “A Kick in the Baubles” by Gordon Steele.

As well as our main productions we have monthly rehearsed play readings in the Blue Bell, Cottingham.

We currently have about 40 members who act in the performances and carry out back-stage and front of house duties. Whatever your talent or experience we can always find a role for you – whether set building, lighting, making costumes, acting, creating sound effects – the list is endless! Many of our members have come to us with little or no experience of theatre and we take a real pride in watching them grow in confidence in whatever they choose to do, on stage or off. We are not a youth theatre, but we welcome younger people as members, treating everyone with equal respect.

Several of our members have gone on to make their way in the professional theatre, but that is not our objective: instead, in the best tradition of amateurs, we work together to deliver the best productions that we can – something appreciated by our very loyal audiences. We also have a “Friends of Cottingham Little Theatre” scheme for those want to become a bit more involved but who do not wish to become full members. Our “Friends” scheme attracts loyal patrons who are invited to our social functions and provide us with valuable support.

The social aspect of the society has always been important and you’ll generally find us up to something each month. Activities include visiting other theatres, quizzes, driving beetles – anything and everything you can think of, as long as it is fun! Ladies’ Day at Beverley Races is always a date in our diary and we have two informal meals each year, one in May after the spring production and in January.

We remain, as we have always been, genuinely open to all. You will find us a welcoming group who are always happy to see you, whether as a member, a “Friend” or simply someone who enjoys watching good plays done well!
